As the tape rolls the lighting of the Ashton reception is reveled. The Art of this old building is amplified in the Victorian lighting patterns. Donna has a way of pattering large rooms to give dramatic lighting effects. This is a style of her own that will sure to be copped soon as she often leads the trends.
When pin spotting it is best to aim for the largest part of the Floral arrangement. Sometimes that may be very high and you may need to watch peoples eyes. Many arrangements are low and you will focus onto the center of the table. If you have to focus after the tables have been set and before the flowers are on the tables it is often a good idea to focus with a white bucket on the table. This is a helpful trick I have employed over the years and last but not least move the table into the light. It may be my last resort. But I expect perfection when I am lighting anything even a simple flower. Happy Lighting.. Donna
I had bride tell me that she was shocked that her band who are providing the sound, the entertainment all night and bringing the up lighting for her wedding do not have pin spotting for her tables. I am wondering if they will be also waiting tables and serving dinner for her guest between numbers? Band are under lots of pressure these days to provide more for their brides but there comes a point when you must say not and do what you do well. I wonder if she has any idea how hard it is to get up on stage and play for 5 to 7 hours? Plus loading in the pa and setting up can kill you. Most bands have other jobs. they are expected to work all day, then travel in rush hour traffic for often over an hour, then set up band lights and pa. Now the bride wants them to light the room and then pinspot all the tables and cake. Playing in a band is hard work it is exhausting. Please remember to feed them also chances they did not have time to think about them selves because they were too busy setting and getting things for your wedding. They need water and food if they are expected to works for 8 to 9 hours on your event. Be the kind of Bride who takes care of those who work so hard to make her day perfect.
The best way to light a plane for an event is to use battery powered LEDs and light them from the ground it is easy and fast. Secret of focus is almost as important as the color. To sucesufully light a plane you light the number that is the important part of the plane. and the fastest way to identify what it is. The wings and the hull will likely appear for other sources. We just need a hint of what the structure is and out minds will draw the rest. after all this is a “backdrop”, “a scene” for the party and not selling a plane. If I were selling a plane I would light this differently, likely just like I do when I am selling a car from all 4 angles. Color I would choice the led white because it puts off a nice blue hue which is very calm cool goes with the blue runway lights nicely.. Why I am writing this is because I have seen others go to extraordinary lengths to light a plane wrong. It just this easy..
